One spring day in 1989, a simple slide show was shown in the foothills of the Himalayas at the residence of His Holiness the Fourteenth Dalai Lama. Adventure photographer Galen Rowell had the idea to pair His Holiness the Dalai Lama's words with Galen's photographs of the country His Holiness had not seen with his own eyes since 1959. This collaboration resulted in the beautiful book My Tibet. Today, more than five decades since his exile, His Holiness the Dalai Lama still waits to return to his homeland. His words, alongside the late Galen Rowell's images, both featured in ICT's 2016 calendar, carry the essence of Tibet. They are even more powerful and poignant as they provide a glimpse of the beauty and spirit of Tibet and its threatened ecosystem and culture.
